New ticket system better for customers

Thousands of South Yorkshire commuters are benefitting from better ways to buy public transport tickets, following a shift to smart technology at Travel Interchanges.

Over 150,000 transactions have taken place at the 22 Ticket Vending Machines put in place across the region since July 2014.

Major terminals, such as Meadowhall Interchange and Sheffield Interchange, are successfully adapting to the new retail approach, as South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive focuses on accessible and flexible products and services for its customers.

John Sawyer, Project Manager at SYPTE, said: “The new software is efficient and easy to use, and it enable customers to make thousands of smart ticket purchases each month.

“South Yorkshire’s whole multi-operator ticketing process has seen a transformation since switching systems, with customers able to redeem smartcards at a Ticket Vending Machine 24 hours a day, seven days a week, instead of having to visit a Travel Information Centre to collect a ticket. The transition has gone hugely to plan and has cut waiting times drastically.”
