New start for 1590s building

One of the oldest buildings in the historic heart of Dronfield, The former Blue Stoops pub, is in line for a major refurbishment.

The Grade II listed building, that dates back to the 1590s, has been closed for two years, but has now been bought by Sheffield’s True North Brew Co - a brewery and gin distillery with eight other venues across Yorkshire.

And award-winning Sheffield architectural practice Coda Studios has submitted a planning application to North East Derbyshire District Council.

Coda architect Peter Noble said: “The application is for an extension to the existing building to form a new kitchen, staff room and office. The application also covers the conversion an old barn building to the rear of the building into a distillery, which is very much in line with the True North Brew Co philosophy.

“We have already had extensive pre-planning meetings with council officers and are confident that our proposals will be seen as a positive use of this fascinating old building, retaining all its original character and features but at the same time bringing fresh life and opportunities to the centre of Dronfield.”
