New Stanage Pole to be erected in April

A new Stanage Pole will be erected on Sunday April 17, in a special ceremony in honour of the Peak District National Park's 65th anniversary.

The previous wooden pole, which was removed last year for safety reasons after some of the wood rotted, had stood on Hallam Moors, close to Stanage Edge, for several hundred years, marking the border of Derbyshire and Yorkshire. Some believe the landmark could even mark the ancient frontier between Mercia and Northumbria.
