New South Yorkshire football academy to host trials

A new football academy has been set up in South Yorkshire.

ProPlayer Academy at Dearne Valley College says it aims to bridge the gap between grassroots football and the region’s professional academies, developing the skills of young players aged between seven and 16.

A trial evening is to be held on Friday, April 8.

Dearne Valley College sports lecturer and ProPlayer Academy Manager, David Merris, who has made appearances for York City, Ossett Town and Harrogate Town, said: “All of our Coaches are FA/UEFA qualified and utilise their extensive footballing backgrounds, and links with clubs in the region to give our academy players the best opportunity to progress further in the sport.

“By opening our new base at Dearne Valley College, the academy will benefit from the college’s high quality sports facilities including their state-of-the-art 3G AstroTurf, as well as premier league standard training equipment.

“We urge any young person to come along and demonstrate their skills at our upcoming trial evenings.”
