Trax FM officially ended its broadcasts after 22 years earlier this week, to be replaced by a nationwide radio network called Greatest Hits Radio.

But it has now emerged that a new station specifically tailored for Doncaster and Bassetlaw is to launch later this month, rivalling the station which has taken over the slot formerly occupied by Trax.

TX1 will launch on September 14 and will serve the Doncaster and Bassetlaw area.

Little is known about the launch, station or presenters at this stage but is understood that former Trax presenters are involved and the station will offer a similar mix of music and local news, information and sport.

Trax, which launched in 1998 and had its studios just off White Rose Way in Doncaster, played a mix of music from the 1970s to the 1990s under the banner ‘hits and memories’.

However, earlier this year, owner Bauer Radio said that it was closing a number of local radio stations across the country and replacing them with Greatest Hits Radio, a national network whose presenters include renowned broadcasters Simon Mayo, Janice Long, Mark Goodier and Paul Gambaccini.

The station officially began broadcasting on September 1 on the same frequency as Trax.

Doncaster’s only independent station, Sine FM, which is based at studios on Nether Hall Road, will also continue to broadcast.
