Sharks say Collins was selected for his abilities as a 'true point guard' and comes with a history of success.

The 6’1 Collins has established a reputation throughout Europe as a player with court vision and an experienced ability to lead a team at every level he has played, according to the club.

Coach Atiba Lyons said: “Anthony is the right type of player to fit the needs of our team. It has been a slow start to the season and we haven’t been able to hit on all cylinders. I think Anthony’s game will help everyone settle in and play more to their strengths."

Last season he played stints in Champions League with Macedonia and also in the Georgian league.

In 2016- 17 he played is first professional season in Slovenia and put up solid numbers of 9.8 points and 4.6 assists per game.

Collins said: “I am excited to get to Sheffield and join the team. After speaking to Coach Lyons I really feel I can bring a lot to an already talented team. I like to play in the open court and get after it on the defensive end."

Collins started his NCAA career at the University of South Florida leading them to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in two decades. For his final year he transferred to Texas A&M, which culminated in leading the Division 1 side to the Sweet 16.

Lyons commented: “We have had great experiences with players from Texas A&M most notably BJ Holmes, who was also a legendary PG during his college and professional life. It is not an easy position, but we look forward to welcoming Anthony this week and getting him involved at ppractice as soon as possible."

Sharks are back in action on Friday with a new look following the addition of Leslee Smith and Collins at the helm, when they take on the Rocks for the first meet this season.
