Platform 0, which is located at the north end of the station closest to the Frenchgate Centre, will be officially open from noon and will be used for trains starting in or terminating in Doncaster.

Work on the project has taken 18 months and includes a new bay platform and a bridge to provide passenger access to it.

Paul Rutter, area director at Network Rail said: “Doncaster is an extremely busy interchange not just for passenger trains but also for freight trains.

"This investment at the station to create platform zero will help us to make services more reliable and is part of a wider programme of investment which will allow more trains to run in the future.

According to the planning application submitted to Doncaster Council earlier this year, the purpose of the new platform will be to "remove traffic from the long distance high speed train lines and improve efficiency of train movements through the station."
