NEW PICTURES: Drone captures latest progress on Sheffield's Olympic Legacy Park

New images taken by a drone show the progress being made at Sheffield's Olympic Legacy Park.

The aerial shots of the 35-acre site in Attercliffe clearly show the base for the all-weather pitch, which should become home to Sheffield Eagles rugby league team later this year.

The pictures also show Oasis Academy Don Valley and UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, both of which are open and running.

And they give a clearer idea of how the development, which city leaders hope will act as a catalyst for regeneration of Attercliffe, fits in with the wider area.

The English Institute of Sport, the old Adelphi theatre and the Supertram lines are clearly visible nearby.

A spokesman for the Olympic Legacy Park said: "Progress is going well on site and is on programme.

"A lot of the work in the last two months has been below ground - drainage and services for the infrastructure - but work is now progressing at ground level with paths, roads and soft landscaping beginning to take shape.

"You’ll notice if you pass by on the tram that the pitch is nearing completion and should be complete later this month for use by Oasis Academy Don Valley and UTC Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.

"Work over the next two to three months will concentrate on completing all the paved areas and soft landscaping to the whole of the site."

The Eagles are currently playing their home matches in Wakefield, but hope to finish the season at the Olympic Legacy Park.

A mystery investor has pledged to build a £7 million stadium around the all-weather pitch if he gets planning permission for a £35 million green power plant nearby.

By the end of the year an indoor basketball arena next door should be just about complete.

New open spaces will be open to the public and construction of Sheffield Hallam University’s Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre should be well under way.

Project director David Hobson also hopes to have attracted the private investment needed for the office and laboratory space.
