The service at the centre on Broad Lane has been hailed as a ‘new model for patient education facilities’.

It is staffed by a patient advisor, who will help patients to develop their own healthcare needs using new technologies, peer support networks and community activities.

A schedule of support groups and drop-in sessions will also be offered for residents to use.

Rachel Beverley-Stevenson, chief executive of One Medical Group which operates the centre, said: “We want to be pro-active about working with the local community and empowering patients to take control of their own health and wellbeing, and educating them about what services are available.

“We are now calling on volunteers and groups around Sheffield to support the new support and advice hub which will provide the community with an instant resource to aid healthcare choices and help patients access the correct services and care.”

Steve Kirk, business manager for the medical centre, added: “Patients are now able to improve their wellbeing and health via the hub which is especially important over the winter period.

“It really empowers patients to take control of their own health and wellbeing by ensuring they’re choosing to access the right care, first time.”

The Sheffield support and advice hub is the first to be used in centres operated by One Medical Group.

It is now to be rolled out to their other centres across the UK.

The medical centre is open from 8am until 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, every day of the year.
