The news comes after the Derbyshire Times started this Facebook discussion asking people if they would like to see a path connecting Ravenside Retail Park with the Lordsmill Street Retail Park, which includes TK Maxx and The Range. The post has been liked more than 900 times.

Earlier this year, Derbyshire County Council opened a new walking and cycling path inbetween the two retail parks.

A council spokesman said today: "It’s good to see that there's so much support for a link from our new cycle path to nearby shops.

"Funding and designs are in place and the work is expected to start in early spring.

"We're sure it will be well used, just as the new cycle path already is."

Currently, some people gain access to the retail parks by going up and down a steep, dangerous embankment.

However, fencing has been put up to try and stop members of the public from doing this.

Commenting on our Facebook page, Sue Stevenson said: "There definitely needs to be a path. Unite the two retail parks - it makes sense."

Andy Mccracken said: "It should have been done years ago to give access to people without cars."

Holly Wood said: "It would be so much easier if there was a path. Plenty of people moan about this."

Peter Pop Wilson said: "Everything needs linking together via good, decent access. At the moment it looks like everything has just been cobbled together without any thought put into it."

Tina Lees added: "A new path would be better for business."
