New '˜meanwhile use' space to open in city

A local arts charity and studio provider has announced the opening of a new '˜meanwhile use' building in the city centre - to provide a space to celebrate and fqacilitate making and creative enterprise.

Creative Arts Development Space will host two exciting new endeavours within the front shop area and large gallery section at the rear of the building on Charles Street - ‘Alt Seen Eye,’ The Alternative Information Centre, and the ‘City of Makers Gallery.’

Alt Seen Eye will provide an opportunity for Sheffield makers to provide merchandise to the public within a prime retail location, and will host printing and promotion services. The City of Makers Gallery will fill the rear space throughout the ongoing Year of Making, hosting a series of exhibitions exploring art, music, manufacturing and enterprise in Sheffield. The gallery will also provide a space where Sheffield artists, makers and creatives can sell their work – a feature that has been highlighted as important for growth in the local creative economy in a recently published report on the Art Sector, commissioned by The University of Sheffield.
