Barnsley Council has been in negotiation for some time with Penistone Town Council about the prospect of providing a fresh lease on the Paramount building in Shrewsbury Road.

The building is run successfully as a cinema and also doubles up as a venue for theatre productions and music shows.

It is now 105 years old and has the distinction of having a bar, allowing cinema customers the opportunity to buy drinks during the interval.

Coun Roy Miller said: "The extended lease on Penistone Paramount shows our commitment to local venues that provide entertainment and support for our residents.

"This fantastic building is at the heart of the Penistone community and will continue to be so for the next 25 years.

"I urge anyone living in the area to visit the Paramount and support the fantastic work they are doing to help keep Barnsley a vibrant and welcoming place," he said.
