A Chesterfield pub could be transformed into a retail centre – creating 30 new jobs.

Under the plans, the Trumpeter, in Harehill Road, would be demolished and turned into a centre including a new pub, cafe and convenience store along with up to four independent retail units which may include a hairdresser, launderette and takeaway.

Architect Martin Rix, of MAD Architects LLP, said: “We are trying to create a new retail centre for the community, providing facilities and services which are much-needed in the area.”

Developer Terry Caton, of Chesterfield-based Caton Enterprises Limited, added: “Over the last couple of months we have been canvassing opinions from residents and groups to ensure we are providing the right mix of shops and services on the site.”

The design team aims to submit a planning application to Chesterfield Borough Council over the next few weeks.

If planning permission is granted, it is hoped the centre would open to the public next year.
