New health clinic is 'safe and sound'

A NEW health clinic in South Yorkshire has been given a name - by local youngsters.

The clinic, at the Springwell Centre in Denaby, is to be called ‘Safe and Sound’ after 14-year-olds Gemma Andrews and Stacey Wilson won a competition entered by 500 young people.

The winning entry was chosen by competition organisers Charlotte Moran and Laura King, both also 14, from Northcliffe School, who came up with the idea for the competition during their personal, social and health education lessons.

The girls decided to create the competition as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award, to create awareness of the new contraception and sexual health clinic.

School nurse Deborah Sarvent, who came up with the idea to get young people involved, said: “There are high rates of teenage pregnancy in the area, so we decided that if they got involved with naming the centre they would be more likely to use it.

“It will benefit the whole of our community.”
