New forest centre is top

A CEREMONY has taken place to mark the end of construction work at the site of a £400,000 visitor centre in Sheffield woodland.

The ‘topping out’ event was held at what will become the new JG Graves Woodland Discovery Centre, at Ecclesall Woods Saw Mill, after contractors Lumsden and Carroll completed their work.

Over the coming months, the building will be fitted out and ready to welcome members of the public in the autumn.

A spokeswoman for Leeds-based Lumsden and Carroll, which took over when the previous developer went into administration, said: “The visitor centre was constructed with the extensive use of timber to act as a showcase for the sustainable timber operations undertaken within the Ecclesall Wood sites.”
