New Doncaster NHS clinic turned around in just six days to help in town's coronavirus fight

The Phoenix Clinic opened its doors for the first time yesterday and will support patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fully refurbished and equipped health centre is based in Cavendish Court, off South Parade.

The clinic is the result of the commitment of the NHS and local businesses to work together and provide facilities to support patients during the crisis.

The clinic was commissioned by NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group and is next to Doncaster’s Same Day Health Centre.

The owner of Cavendish Court, Vigo Group, worked closely with tenants to free up space in order to create the facility.

The CCG approved the conversion of the space into a self-contained 5 room unit with changing and rest facilities, designed to provide additional support for patients during the crisis.

Operating continuously 24 hours a day, it has the potential to treat up to 1,000 patients a week. Appointments will be made by telephone only with patients attending strictly at pre-arranged appointment times.

Dr David Crichton, Chair of NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group said: “We have been very pleased with the speed with which Vigo Group has responded to our call to create a temporary facility to provide support to Doncaster patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are grateful to both Vigo and the previous tenants, for working together to ensure the facility is made available and operational as quickly as possible. Please note that patients must not turn up without an appointment, as they will not be seen without being spoken to on the telephone and allocated a specific time and appointment first.”
