DBL managing director David Clarkson said he “felt at home” at the Sharks, and that was a big reason for DBL acquiring the naming rights of the BBL club.

He said: “I’ve always been taught to buy off the people, not the company, and you can’t find better people that those at the Sharks.

“The family atmosphere here is very appealing, and we often give tickets to our staff, who mostly have young children, and they love it.

“I’ve become hooked on basketball, without a shadow of a doubt.”

With DBL’s acquisition of Sheffield Sharks naming rights, a new kit has been unveiled still keeping with the blue and yellow home and away theme.

But more importantly the club has its sights on expanding, especially with a new home on the horizon.

Sharks are hoping to move to the Olympic Legacy park in 2017.

The club said that planning permission had recently been approved for the development in the Sheffield’s so-called Innovation District in the east end.

A 3,000 seat indoor community arena is being planned for Sharks and a variety of other users.

A 3G rugby pitch, stand and hotel is also on the drawing board.
