ONE of Sheffield’s most prestigious wedding venues is being taken over by a new operator after the company which currently runs it handed back the contract.
KUDOS, part of London-based Crown Group and which already runs Cutlers’ Hall, has won a 25-year contract to operate from Whirlowbrook Hall.
As part of the tender process, Sheffield Council invited potential operators to indicate if they could continue with the café at the hall, but officials said no viable bid for the hall was received which included the café.
The council said it will now look to find another operator willing to provide a café or refreshment service elsewhere within the park – although the current venue will continue to trade until the end of the summer.
F Fretwell-Downing, based at Grindleford, in the Hope Valley, announced in January it was giving up its contract to operate Whirlowbrook Hall, with effect from the end of October.
The company said it was unable to make the hall viable and had been subsidising operations with profits from its other venue, The Maynard, at Grindleford.
