New appeal for witnesses

POLICE have renewed their appeal for witnesses to a smash on the M1 in South Yorkshire which left a Nottinghamshire man dead.

John Butler, aged 55, from Kirkby in Ashfield, was pronounced dead on arrival at Chesterfield Hospital following the crash on Tuesday July 17.

A 28-year-old lorry driver from Poland was uninjured.

The two-vehicle smash involving a red DAF lorry and a white Ford Transit Connect van happened opposite the Woodhall Services slip road on the southbound carriageway.

Sgt Andy Noble, from the South Yorkshire Police Road Policing Group, said: “It is now three weeks since the incident and we have had a very limited response from witnesses.”
