He and good friend Robin Sibson are eagerly-awaiting the opening of their state-of-the-art Mount Cook Adventure Centre in Middleton-by-Wirksworth.

The eco-friendly facility will encourage visitors to explore stunning Derbyshire by providing access to a range of activities, including rock climbing, kayaking and caving.

It will also offer an educational insight into the history of the area.

Building work is now in its final stage and the centre is on course to launch in July.

Mr Adams said: “Robin and I have always been huge advocates for the benefits of outdoor adventure and education.

“We were keen to develop a centre which was eco-friendly and accessible to as many people as possible, especially young people and those who would not otherwise have the opportunity.

“Our activities will inspire and motivate visitors to learn new skills and face challenges with determination and courage as well as discover new things about themselves and others.

“We hope visitors will become enthused by the beautiful Peak District and will consequently seek to protect it.

“It’s a very exciting venture and something we’ve always wanted to do so it’s fantastic to see our dream starting to take shape.”

He added: “The venture is keeping me very busy. I’m in my 60s and despite taking early retirement I’m feeling far too energetic to really retire.”

The building will also host celebratory and corporate events.

Mr Adams added: “We’re due to host a birthday party this summer and a wedding in the autumn and we can’t wait to cater for more events in the future. We look forward to our first guests arriving in the summer.”
