Work will begin later this month on a new £400,000 centre for Dronfield’s branch of the Air Training Corps.
The base is to be built on Hartington Road, on the same site as the cadets’ current training hut.
East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association is in charge of the project, which is due to be completed this summer.
The new centre, which will be used by by up to 60 cadets and adult volunteers, will include two classrooms, a drill hall, offices and storage facilities for training equipment.
Spokesman Martin Capewell said: “The current centre has become tired over time so we are delighted to be able to develop of a new training centre. Being a cadet allows young people to take part in activities that present excitement and adventure such as flying or gliding.”
