Nest boxes donated to South Yorkshire nature reserve

Clients from Rotherham Council’s Addison Day Centre, which supports adults with learning disabilities, made bird boxes and a hedgehog house, which were donated to the RSPB’s Old Moor Wetlands Centre, near Wombwell, Barnsley, at a recent information day.

During the event, RSPB volunteer Ian Butler showed photographs of wildlife to be found around the nature reserve and explained where he shot the images.

Members of AD-PRO in Maltby, which is also part of Rotherham’s Adult Learning Disability Service and supports adults with learning disabilities to find paid employment, attended.

Rotherham Council’s Advisory Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, Coun David Roche said: “As well as helping wildlife in the local area, this experience will have contributed towards the employment skills and experience of those who took part, as well as increasing their independence, confidence and social skills.”

AD-PRO employment co-ordinator, Lisa Curran, who organised the event, said: “The RSPB were thrilled with the donations.”
