National rankings pointer to seedings for Sheffield table tennis championship

As the Sheffield table tennis championships sponsored by Redtooth loom nearer, Table Tennis England have announced the latest national rankings which will determine the top seeds for the event.

In the women’s list, Vicky Johnston (Redtooth) – South Yorkshire’s highest ranking player, reaches her highest position (91) following her recent successes in the County championships.

Above Vicky are Derbyshire’s Isobel Ashley (23), Sarah Short (Notts) at 45 and Warwickshire’s Rachel Pilgrim who holds the 56th position.

Former Sheffield champion Judi Walker (Crookes) is ranked 147 followed by Chrissie Sykes (Redtooth) and Amy Gittings (Albert Premier).

The men’s list is littered with Sheffield league players headed by Mark Short (32), Richard Lightowler (33), Ben Barlow (42), Mike Fraser (67), Harry Dai (78), Stephen Horsfield (89) and Jack Grant (101).

The closing date for entry is Sunday, January 17 and the tournament takes place at the EIS on Sunday, January 31.
