A teenager has been arrested after a car ploughed into crowds, injuring four people.

The vehicle collided with revellers in Newport, South Wales, early this morning, with footage on social media showing people screaming as it came towards them.

Three women and a man were taken to hospital, with two of the women believed to have sustained life-changing injuries.

The car was reportedly later found burnt out.

Police, who were called to Cambrian Road at 5.30am, said an 18-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving.

"This is a shocking incident for everyone involved," he said.

"Specialist officers are currently investigating and are appealing for information in relation to identifying the driver of this vehicle.
