NAMED AND SHAMED: Sheffield litter louts fined

Litter louts have been ordered to pay £10,629 in a crackdown in Sheffield.

A total of 26 offenders caught dropping litter across the city were each issued with £75 fixed penalty notices but failed to pay and were prosecuted at court.

Sheffield magistrates fined them each £220 and ordered them to pay costs of £168.79 and a victim surcharge of £20 - making a total of £10,629.

Sheffield Council's environmental enforcement officers have issued 890 fixed penalty notices to litter louts caught in the act over the last 12 months.

Most paid but those who refused - 174 litter louts in total over the last year - were prosecuted.

The latest batch of prosecutions took place on Tuesday.

Councillor Bryan Lodge, Sheffield Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “The courts have once again supported our council’s efforts to keep Sheffield clean.

“Everyone should do their bit to improve our environment and we will not tolerate those who spoil it.”

The Sheffield offenders were Vincent Yu, aged 26, of Queens Road, Highfield; Nefeli Karageorgi, 21, of Central Quay, Alma Street, Kelham Island; Yan Li, 28, of Leadmill Road, city centre; Nazli Altin, 28, of Leamington Street, Crookes; Hafza Muse, 23, of Batemoor Road, Batemoor; Lucy Jeff, 21, of Norfolk Park Road, Norfolk Park; Linda Turner, 55 and Megan Turner, 18, both of West Quadrant, Firth Park; Amjed Hussain, 41, of Nidd Road, Darnall; Jonathan Williams, 20, of Smithfield Road, Charnock; Hye Sang Kim, 23, of Alma Street, Kelham Island; Jessica Joanne Dymond, 19, of Christ Church Road, Burngreave and Lewis Trigg, 24, of Wainwright Crescent, Woodthorpe.

Those convicted from out of the city were Craig Thomason, 28, of Millhouse Road, Birmingham; Lo Bach Van, 38, of Broadway Avenue, Bradford; Jing Li, 23, of Caledonian Road, London; Toni Joanne Kerr, 37, of St Joseph’s Court, York; Nicolle Gadd, 23, of Rochester Close, Scunthorpe; Heng Wu, 23, of Union Street South, Halifax; Shereece Green, 22, of Beech Crescent, Killamarsh; Wei Zhang, 23 and Ying Xie, 23, both of Ffriddoedd Road, Bangor; Andrew Shields, 26, of Crowley Drive, Wath upon Dearne; Edison Zhou, 26, of De Grey Street, Hull; Jiajun Kan, 21, of Leicester University Campus, Leicester and Richelle Lee Plant, 26, of Purley Way, Croydon.
