Mystery over missing woman - VIDEO

RELATIVES of a Sheffield woman missing for over a week today admitted they are now beginning to "fear the worst".

Barbara Robinson, aged 52, was last seen by her husband of 15 years Keith when he dropped her off at Christ Church in Stannington last Thursday night.

The meeting she was due to attend was cancelled but instead of returning to her Stannington home Barbara vanished and has not been seen since.

Police investigating her disappearance received two reports of a woman matching her description in the Peacock Inn, Stannington, on the night she went missing but have so far failed to locate her. The nurse, who works as a senior matron in a hospice near Manchester, has never gone missing before.

Her disappearance led to police officers scouring Stannington and surrounding areas using search dogs, horses and the force helicopter.

Police Community Support Officers handed out leaflets to residents yesterday showing Mrs Robinson's picture and asking people to get in touch if they spot her.

Her 46-year-old sister Diane Read's partner Fay Saville, 28, said: "We don't want to think this way but as the days and nights pass we are beginning to fear the worst.

"There is just no news at all - police have carried out searches but there is nothing for them to follow up. She has just disappeared.

"We are all distraught, but her husband, sister and 85-year-old father are going out of their minds and want her to know they love her and want her back home.

"It worries us that there has been no contact with any members of the family at all."

Missing Person Officer PC Joe Chappell said: "Police continue to remain very concerned for Barbara's welfare and safety and will continue to follow up our enquiries, although recent searches where she was last seen have proved negative.

"I would urge any members of public, including bus and taxi drivers, who were in the Stannington area last Thursday who may have seen Barbara or have any information, regardless of how insignificant they may be feel the information to be, to get in contact with us."

Anyone with any information should to contact PC Joe Chappell at Ecclesfield Police Station on 0114 296 3997 or 07810 852740.
