My View, Charlotte Taylor: Town holds its own in business arena

Doncaster is a great place to do business - I feel that I can say that with a real sense of authority after a decade of doing business in the town.

It is hard to believe that it is 10 years ago this month that I set up a business in Doncaster.

With seven years of experience in PR and communication under my belt I started an agency in the town to help businesses to share their news and raise their profile.

My mission was to help them to be seen and heard in the right places and that still stands today, although much has changed in the last 10 years.

Now, thanks to social media, businesses have the opportunity to speak directly to their customers, respond to issues and, importantly, listen to what is being said about them.

This can be a huge benefit to businesses and when managed well can help them to offer outstanding customer service. The flip side is that when social media is managed badly it can be very damaging to an organisation’s reputation.

Doncaster is a great place to work because businesses really do support one another, be it Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust working with Lakeside Village to support their Father’s Day Strongman event or Doncaster Deaf Trust working with businesses to offer deaf awareness training.

It is also a town that champions women in business. With a strong female leader of the council, a mayor and the phenomenal Bobbie Roberts, women don’t have to look far to see what they can achieve.

Doncaster 100 and the Chamber provide great support to entrepreneurs and new businesses and I am proud to have been a mentor for Doncaster 100 for some years.

When we talk about the Northern Powerhouse and the Sheffield City Region I’m pleased to say that Doncaster really holds its own.

Achievements like The Great Yorkshire Way, a public and private sector funded link road making Doncaster Sheffield Airport even more accessible, and the recent Tour De Yorkshire show that as a town we can deliver.

They say that time flies when you are having fun and the last 10 years have certainly done just that.

I’m looking forward to continuing to work in this town because I truly do believe that #doncasterisgreat
