My light bulb moment

I have just experienced one it the most humbling experiences of my 60+ years on planet earth.

I had read that food banks were in general short of toiletries, nappies etc and with this in mind my friend and I collected five bags of these to be taken to the New Hope Food Bank at Killamarsh.

On the way to drop these off I stopped to do my shopping and had a ‘light bulb’ moment, not to send any Christmas cards and with the money saved I was able to fill another three bags with Christmas goodies .

I took these donations to Killamarsh where I met some amazing people filling parcels for recipients.

I then went to Crystal Peaks Argos to collect some games I’d ordered for my nieces. A man was struggling to carry out a television that he’d bought that was the size of my small settee. I couldn’t help but sit and contemplate what I’d just been discussing with the volunteers and reflect on the madness in our world.

Whilst I realise there have and always will be have and have nots, and luckily I’m one of the first, please when you’re doing your Christmas shopping share a bit of it with your local food bank.

Sorry if I’m pontificating but I’m sick to death of hearing about Brexit and Trump and think we have more pressing problems nearer home
