Muslim charity dishes out free curry to victims of Doncaster floods

Volunteers from a leading UK Muslim charity have dished out free curry to the victims of the Doncaster floods.

AKF have been distributing hygiene packs, hot drinks and sandwiches to villagers ever since the River Don broke its banks and deluged the village

However the decided that this simply wasn’t enough and returned with hundreds of portions of curry for grateful residents.

Iman Musa of AKF said: "The rice based dish is perfect for filling the families of the village up, and has come at a time when morale was running lower than when resident’s homes were first struck by the high water levels.”

“There has been little respite for those devastated by the flooding . Many of the residents only had half an hour notice to flee their homes, which still remain waterlogged."

“The situation is still very severe”, and we are working around the clock to offer what we can.

“We will carry on this work until the situation stabilises and returns to normal."

Landlord of the Hare and Hounds pub, Scott Godfrey, explained "We’re on higher ground at the pub so we’ve been a bit of a base for the victims.”

Imran Musa said “Many of the flood victims had tears in their eyes we arrived at the Hare and Hounds pub to provide aid "

A local couple from Fishlake explained to AKF volunteers how they “had to get evacuated on a boat” from their family home and highlighted that their current situation has been "really quite distressing for the children.”

They also went on to praise the efforts of the Muslim charity, stressing that without the aid at the pub, they simply “wouldn’t have had anything to eat today.”
