I’D like to give sincere thanks to friends and acquaintances of my late partner, Stan Beighton, who attended his funeral last Thursday at City Road crematorium. Sadly Stan died while we were on holiday in Menorca. He was 60.

Stan was a guitarist and lead singer in the 70s and 80s and played in various groups, the most popular being his own group, Midnight Shift, which was very well known in the Sheffield area.

Although he retired from his music career several years ago, Stan often obliged musician friends who’d ask him to help out when they were short of a singer. Stan was to have come out of retirement later this year. He loved music from the 50s and 60s. His repertoire would have included songs by his favourite artist, Elvis, and songs by other singers, including Buddy Holly and Rick Nelson.

Stan was kind, considerate and compassionate and, judging from the attendance of almost 200 people at his funeral, I think everyone who knew him would agree.
