THE man found dead at a house in South Yorkshire - sparking a murder investigation - has been named.

The man, named by locals as John Dawson, was found dead on Highstone Avenue, Worsbrough Common, Barnsley yesterday afternoon.

A post mortem examination, aimed at establishing the cause of death, was due to be carried out this afternoon at Sheffield’s Medico Legal Centre and official identification will take place after that.

South Yorkshire Police said the death is being treated as suspicious and officers are conducting enquiries at a number of addresses in the area.

Two men, aged 41 and 42, have been arrested in connection with the murder and have been detained for questioning.

A police spokesman said they were helping officers with their enquiries.
