Murder investigation launched after fatal Sheffield shooting, as police step up patrols

A murder investigation has been launched after a 23-year-old man was shot dead on a Sheffield street.

Police say they have stepped up patrols to reassure the community following the tragedy in Daniel Hill, Upperthorpe, on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Investigating Officer Joanne Bates said: "We are still in the very early stages our of investigation however a murder investigation has now been launched and enquiries are ongoing.

"Extra patrols have been put in place in the area to offer reassurance to the community and anyone with information about the incident is urged to report it to an officer."

Officers were called to Daniel Hill, around 50 metres from shops in Upperthorpe Road, at around 1.35pm on Saturday.

A 23-year-old man was taken to Northern General Hospital, where he died shortly afterwards.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting the incident number 571 of February 18.
