Murder arrest over death of woman, 50, at Sheffield social club

A teenage woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 50-year-old woman after an 'altercation' at a Sheffield social club.

Police said the 18-year-old Sheffield woman had today (Tuesday, March 1) been bailed.

The arrest follows the death of a 50-year-old woman in the early hours of yesterday morning (Monday, February 29) at the Northern General Hospital after an incident at the Manor Social Club on City Road, Manor Top.

Floral tributes have been laid outside the club, which had been cordoned off with police tape throughout the day.

The victim has been named locally as Gillian Poulson, who has been described as a 'lovely lady' by people that knew her.

Detective Chief Inspector David Stopford, the investigating officer, said: "The woman was admitted to the Northern General Hospital in the early hours of this morning (Monday 29 February) and sadly died a short time later.

"We know she was at the Manor Estates Social Club, where an alleged altercation has taken place. I urge witnesses to come forward so we can establish the circumstances leading to her death."
