M&S staff raise funds for colleague

Sheffield retail staff have raised hundreds of pounds for Sheffield Hospitals Charity, in support of a colleague whose world was turned upside down following a heartbreaking stillbirth.

Staff at M&S Simply Food, on Ecclesall Road, raised more than £800 for the Jessop Wing by hosting a fundraising evening with an auction, raffle and prizes donated by shoppers and local businesses.

The evening was the first event in a year of planned fundraising, after the store named Sheffield Hospitals Charity as its charity of the year in solidarity with their colleague Dave Mooney.

Dave was devastated by the news that wife, Kim had lost their baby boy, Oscar, at 36 and a half weeks last summer, after a healthy pregnancy with no previous complications.

The couple now have a healthy six month old baby boy, Otis, and are continuing to raise funds for the Jessop Wing following the outstanding care they received during the most difficult period of their lives.

Dave said: “It’s incredibly tough to lose a baby and at the time you think you will never get through it. Fundraising is a way for us to keep his spirit alive.”
