Rotherham MP Sarah Champion was due to attend a Downing Street summit today on improving responses to child sexual exploitation.

The event, hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron, was due to look at how to intervene, identify and support more victims.

Ms Champion said: “I’m glad Mr Cameron and the Government are finally acknowledging this is an issue which needs urgent attention, but I’m disappointed it has taken so long.

“It is months since the Jay report was released but Rotherham has had hardly any resources or funding.”

She said CSE needed to be seen as a ’national issue’.
