MP speaks up for midwifery

Have your say

A SOUTH Yorkshire MP has promised to support a campaign by the Royal College of Midwives to protect maternity services from cuts.

Father-of-two Dan Jarvis, who represents Barnsley Central, says more midwives should be recruited to cope with the rising birthrate.

“It is imperative that spending on maternity does not fall and that it matches the demands placed on maternity services,” he said.

Yorkshire regional Euro MP Godfrey Bloom, meanwhile, has criticised the Government for rejecting a request from Conservative Party activists for a referendum on continued membership of the European Union.

The UK Independence Party politician said: “It is patently clear David Cameron has no intention of letting us have our say on future EU membership.”
