SHEFFIELD MP Meg Munn has helped to solve a benefits problem for unemployed people who are members of the Territorial Army.
The Labour politician, who represents Heeley, raised the issue of a mandatory 15-day training camp affecting jobless TA soldiers’ unemployment benefits because they are not supposed to work more than 16 hours a week.
She said: “For families dependent on benefit there is disruption which means they can find themselves without money for several weeks. There can be the need to re-apply for benefits and the consequences can make rejoining the TA too much of a problem.”
Employment Secretary Chris Grayling has promised to make changes to the system after Ms Munn’s concerns.
He said: “I have asked my officials to take forward a change.”
