Tates Travel, which operated in the Barnsley and Rotherham areas, announced its closure on Monday, with Stagecoach Yorkshire stepping in to take on some routes shortly after.

But Penistone and Stocksbridge MP Angela Smith has added her voice to those calling for support to rural areas. She said: “Whilst I and many other individuals have previously expressed concern with regard to the level of service provided by Tates Travel, the shock collapse of the operator risks isolating many areas of Barnsley, including villages such as Langsett in my constituency.”

Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher expressed similar sentiments.
