MP in blast at job programme

THE Government’s flagship employment scheme is failing people in Doncaster, according to one of the borough’s MPs.

New figures show that, across Doncaster, the Work Programme has put into jobs just 110 people from the 5,000 who applied - a success rate of only two per cent.

There are now 2,820 people in Doncaster who have been claiming Jobseekers Allowance for 12 months or more, with up to eight claimants chasing every job vacancy in parts of Doncaster.

Doncaster Central MP Rosie Winterton said: “This is yet more evidence that David Cameron’s government have absolutely no clue how to get people back to work.

“Young people are being left to languish out of work. The Government should be working with employers, offering to pay young people’s wages in return for apprenticeships and training.”
