MP '˜galled' by RBS closure

Lee Rowley, MP for North East Derbyshire, has pledged to raise local concerns, following the announcement that a local Royal Bank of Scotland branch is closing.

RBS announced the decision yesterday to close their Dronfield bank branch in January 2019, blaming a decline in counter transactions in recent years.

Mr Rowley said: 'I'm disappointed that customers throughout Dronfield, Holmesfield, Coal Aston and Eckington could have their local RBS branch closed next year.

'Banks are hugely important to their local communities and we have seen how, in other parts of the constituency like Clay Cross, the loss of branches has hit the community. We know that banking is changing but it is particularly galling that RBS announced this closure out of the blue and without any consultation with local residents.  That's not the way you should treat communities.

'I will be raising this issue with RBS directly and highlighting the concerns that local residents have already raised with me.'

The branch is scheduled to close on January 17.
