Penistone and Stocksbridge Labour MP Angela Smith called on South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive to develop a satisfactory and sustainable public transport solution for Penistone and the surrounding area.

The SYPTE is consulting on the Barnsley Bus Partnership, over bus services changes across the borough.

Mrs Smith said; “I have deep concerns about the currently-proposed bus routes forming part of the Bus Partnership consultation.”

She added: “I am worried that the withdrawal of many services from the Penistone area will have a significant impact on many local people who rely on public transport.”

The bus changes include slight extensions to services 20 and 21.

But passengers have voiced concerns about the proposed withdrawal of services 23A, 24, 25 and 300 among others.

Mrs Smith added; “The current Bus Partnership proposal is to withdraw a number of services in the west of the Borough and replace them with a local solution, though this has not been defined.

“I strongly believe however that local people are entitled to a regular, reliable, timetabled service on which they can rely.”
