Shoppers at a South Yorkshire supermarket have donated more than 4,000 meals for families in need.
Volunteers, including MP John Healey, manned a collection point at Tesco, Wath-upon-Dearne.
And Mr Healey, Labour MP for Wentworth & Dearne, has now called on Tesco to set up a permanent food donation point in its stores.
Mr Healey said:“The people of Wath have been as generous as ever and their donations will go straight to families in need in the local area.
“Given the success of this weekend collection, I’d like to see a permanent drop-off point in store and I have asked Tesco’s chief executive to consider this.”
Shoppers around the country are reported to have donated 3.5 million meals.
