A SOUTH Yorkshire MP is backing a local community centre’s efforts to secure £300,000 in Lottery funding.

John Healey, Labour MP for Wentworth and Dearne, has thrown his weight behind Rawmarsh’s High Street Centre’s application, submitting a letter of support to the Big Lottery Fund’s Reaching Communities scheme.

The centre is hoping the amount will ensure its security for another four years.

Mr Healey said: “I have been involved with the centre – both as local MP and a dad – since the beginning and it’s extremely well-regarded and supported by the community.

“This funding would strengthen the centre’s ability to help deal with the very pressing problems of lack of work experience, skills and job opportunities and personal and family isolation.”
