MP attacks plan hitting unions

SOUTH Yorkshire Labour MP John Healey has attacked Tory plans to end paid time off for union representatives in the public sector.

Eric Pickles MP, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, wants to save £250 million spent across the country by local councils on full-time officials.

He warned union officials should carry on their work ‘in their own time’. But Wentworth and Dearne MP Mr Healey argues union officials help save councils money by speeding up tribunal cases and encouraging training.
