Motorists urged to check their tyres

Motorists are being urged to check their tyre tread and pressure as part of National Tyre Safety Month.

The South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership is backing the national campaign, led by tyre safety charity TyreSafe, to highlight the importance of driving with correctly inflated and maintained tyres.

Officers from the partnership will be attending events throughout the month to provide advice on why and how tyres should be checked.

They will be at Morrisons, Bawtry Road, Bramley, between 10am and 4pm on October 17 and Edlington Fire Station, Edlington Lane, Warmsworth, between 10m and 4pm on October 26.

Alex Linton, the interim South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership’s education manager, said: “It’s easy to forget little jobs like checking your tyres but it only takes a couple of minutes to check the pressures and tread are correct. Doing this regularly not only helps to keep you and other road users safe but can also reduce your fuel bills and extend the life of your tyres.

“We encourage all drivers and riders to check their tyres every month.”
