Motorists told NOT to drive after cars crash on snow covered roads in Sheffield

Police have urged motorists not to drive unless absolutely essential after a number of crashes in Sheffield this morning.

The Beast from the East hit Sheffield for a third time on bank holiday Monday with heavy snow falling from around 6am.

Motorists have already warned of 'no go' areas for cars including Gleadless, Town End, Manor Top and Weston Park.

Streets Ahead have begun gritting roads across the city but one resident said it was 'too little, too late'.

There have already been two reported crashes as a result in the snow; on Upper Albert Road and Bradway Road.

Police have said that Upper Albert Road is blocked and treacherous and have pleaded with motorists not to drive.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "15 minutes into the start of day shifts and already 2 reported #RTCs Upper Albert Road & Bradway Road.

"Upper Albert Road is blocked and treacherous. please please please don't drive unless you have to #advice #sheffield #traffic."
