Officers were called to Rotherham Road near Parkgate Retail Park shortly after 1.45am this morning (Sunday, August 9) to reports of a collision involving a grey Yamaha motorbike.
Around 25 metres after the railway bridge, the rider – who was travelling away from the shopping centre – is said to have lost control, left the road, and collided head-on with a road sign.
The 40-year-old, who is not believed to have been wearing a helmet, has suffered serious head and spinal injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the bike prior to the crash or who has dash-cam or CCTV footage is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 129 of 9 August.
They are also looking to speak to a second motorcyclist, riding a Husgavarna bike, who they believe was in the area at the time.
