Motorcyclist dies after collision on major Sheffield road

A 33-year-old motorcyclist has died following a collision on a major Sheffield road.

The incident happened on Chesterfield Road South at 5.50pm, occurring on the southbound carriageway in the direction of Bowshaw.

The man’s vehicle was involved in a collision with a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency services have closed part of the road from Meadowhead down to the Bowshaw roundabout.

The road remained closed at 10pm on Wednesday evening.

Friends of the man, who has not been formally named, took to Facebook to pay tribute to him.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or noticed any other vehicles that may have appeared to be travelling alongside the motorbike prior to the incident occurring, or the manner of driving prior to the incident, to please make contact with police.

The incident resulted in severe traffic delays around the area this evening, with a number of Stagecoach bus services diverted via Jordanthorpe.
