CONCERNS about rowdy revellers failed to persuade councillors that an application by a city centre bar for extra hours should not be granted.

Players, on West Street, will be allowed to open until 12.30am Sunday to Thursday, and 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays and also on Sundays before Bank Holidays.

The application sought to make hours which were granted on an experimental basis in autumn last year permanent.

Six letters of objection were made from residents and Central ward councillor Jillian Creasy, who were concerned extra opening hours would ‘prolong the amount of time for noise and urinating, vomiting and fighting’.

But councillors on the planning board accepted a recommendation from council officers that it would not have an unduly detrimental impact due to other late bars nearby.
