Eagles have slumped to eighth in the Championship after their fourth straight league defeat against Dewsbury. After 11 new arrivals to his new look full-time roster, Aston looks set to reshuffle his pack again, with the final straw coming during Monday’s poor show at the Tetley’s Stadium. “I am looking at ways to get out of this hole that we are digging” Aston said. “I’ll be looking for players to bring in, anything that is better than what we’ve got. I did see some light at the end of the tunnel against Featherstone, but it is no good backing that up with the performance that we produced against Dewsbury.”

The Eagles supremo threatened to go into the market after a disappointing performance in the Challenge Cup victory against Swinton, and following another slack display he has confirmed that the process of potential arrivals will now be accelerated ahead of a daunting visit to Bradford Bulls this Sunday.

“The process has already started, I will be looking at ways with which we can resolve this situation because I won’t abide what I saw against Dewsbury,” he added.

“I know where I am at, I have been trying for six or seven weeks now, but time is over.

“I know what needs to happen; if I can I will bring some people in, as many as possible. I have seen enough now, I think we have to move forward by fetching in some people. If that means an end to some of the players that have been with me for a long time, then we will have to do it.”

Aston’s plight hasn’t been helped with winger Garry Lo and centre Menzie Yere being sidelined through injury, but both are nearing a return to action.

Meanwhile, winger Ben Blackmore has been banned for two games following a Grade C offence for striking after an incident during the clash with Swinton.
